Video Random-Access Memory (VRAM) is a type of memory specifically accessible to a Dedicated or Discrete Graphics Processing Unit (dGPU) rather than being shared with the Central Processing Unit (CPU). VRAM usually offers greater bandwidth than conventional RAM used by the CPU and this is important because a dedicated or discrete graphics subsystem often requires this extra bandwidth for optimal performance. While the main memory is usually described as DDRx, VRAM is usually described as GDDRx.
