Virtual Machines (VM) are secondary Operating Systems permitted to run inside hardware through a host Operating System. Special software called a hypervisor allows a user to control and allocate specified numbers of processor cores, as well as specific amounts of memory and storage for each virtual machine. These virtual machines can be isolated from each other or share access to storage.
