The term semiconductor refers to the ability of a material to allow for the conductive properties (of something like a metal) and the insulating or non-conductive properties (of something like a ceramic). The term can apply to the raw components used in an Integrated Circuit (IC) or to the device itself. In its finalized form, a lithographic process allows an IC to act as a CPU, GPU, RAM, or controller.
