Non-Volatile Memory Express is a type of storage used in modern computers and based on PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express). These types of storage devices are now common in desktops, laptops and video game consoles, and are comparable in size to a stick of chewing gum. They can also can handle IOPS (Input/Output operations per second) in the 6 and 7 figure range, exponentially faster than a rotating drive at speeds ranging from 1 – 7 GB/s (GigaBytes per second), in certain conditions. This level of performance is ideal for massive graphical, video, and machine learning workloads that can run now in run in minutes rather than weeks.
