Integrated Graphics Processing Unit (iGPU) is a term used to describe the graphical processor component of a processor that includes both a central processing unit and a graphical processing unit sharing the same die rather than inside a dedicated or discrete graphical system. Traditional iGPUs are relatively limited when compared to dedicated GPUs because they are forced to share access to main memory rather than using a discrete memory bank. Main memory is typically slower than dedicated graphical memory (VRAM). This also means an iGPU must reserve a portion of memory that reduces the amount of memory available to the main processor. iGPUs can dramatically reduce power consumption, cooling requirements, complexity, and overall system size.
