It was on sale, so we bought one. For $159, the Oculus Go is an economical, self-contained VR device. It does not require a computer, it connects it to WiFi, downloads some apps, and provides an immersive media experience.

Oculus go was designed by the Chinese company, Xiaomi and runs a Facebook-flavored build of Android on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. It has a single LCD display with 2560×1440 resolution and displays at 60 or 72 Hz. Of course, demanding applications will struggle on such a low-powered device and lower frame rates will decrease the quality of the experience.

Overall, Oculus Go seems best-suited as an educational tool for students. It’s not made for hardcore gaming, but it’s an excellent viewer. Think of it as a modern version of the View-Master. Is it worth $159? Well, we think so, but we are pretty nerdy.
