This WiFi standard allows APs (Access Points) on the same network to direct traffic seamlessly from one point to another as a device travels through a space (building or outdoor). This technology is necessary because without a controller-based handoff, a client device (like a smartphone or computer) will usually remain connected to the original AP until its signal drops entirely. The controller signals the original, further AP to drop while pushing that device to the now-closest AP, hopefully without losing packets.
