1440p describes displays with a horizontal resolution of 1440 progressive lines. These displays are also commonly called QHD (Quad High Definition or Quad-HD) because they are exactly double the 720p specification of HD (High Definition). Progressive means that all the lines are refreshed simultaneously, rather than interlaced odd-even order we used to see with SD (Standard Definition), often called 480i.
